Deion Sanders on 60 Minutes: CBS shares 2nd profile in as many seasons

Deion Sanders has captivated the college football world to start the 2023 campaign. So much so that a pillar of journalism decided to break one of its unwritten rules.
60 Minutes recently profiled the new Colorado head coach, making this Sanders’ second appearance on the CBS program in as many seasons. This runs against the program’s tradition of not re-visiting a subject in that time span.
However, the appeal of Sanders made this Prime Time decision an obvious one.

After escaping with a double overtime victory vs. Colorado State, Colorado is off to a 3-0 start after winning just 1 game last season.
Sanders has been a polarizing figure since taking over in Boulder. The most recent situation involved Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell criticizing Sanders for wearing sunglasses and a hat during media interviews.
“I truly make a difference. I make folks nervous, man. I get folks movin’ in their seat. I get folks twiddlin’ their thumbs. I get them thinkin’ and second-guessin’ theirself,” Sanders said. “You know — have you ever been so clean that you walked in, and somebody looked down at you, then they looked at themselves? They had to check themselves because you were so clean? I have that effect.”
Sanders also believes his tough love approach is preparing his players for the real world.
“I think truth is good for kids. We’re so busy lyin’, we don’t even recognize the truth no more in– in society. We want everybody to feel good,” Sanders said. “That’s not– that’s not the way life is. Now, it is my job to make sure I have what we need to win. That makes a lot of people feel good. Winning does.”
Sanders and No. 19 Colorado will aim to continue its winning when they travel to No. 10 Oregon on Sept. 23 (3 p.m. EST/ABC).
