Deion Sanders is now shooting down a report that Colorado is starting third-string quarterback Ryan Staub for its Week 3 contest at Houston. ESPN’s Pete Thamel had the report on Tuesday that Sanders took issue with, despite confirming that Staub is getting the majority of first-team snaps though.
“In today’s media, we don’t care about being correct anymore,” Sanders said. “We just want to be first.”
The 6-foot-1 Staub saw action in Colorado’s 31-7 victory vs. Delaware in Week 2 and completed 7 of his 10 passes for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. The California native is in his third season with Colorado. The most action he saw was as a freshman when he went 23-for-40 with 254 yards and a touchdown.
Senior Kaidon Salter has played the most at quarterback for Colorado this season, going 30-for-44 with 261 yards and a touchdown through the air along with 68 rushing yards and 2 scores on the ground. Freshman quarterback Julian Lewis is 2-for-4 for 8 yards.
Colorado (1-1) will try to get a winning streak going in their Big 12 opener. This is the first meeting between the programs since Colorado beat Houston 29-17 on New Year’s Eve in 1971 in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
