Deion Sanders revealed Saturday night that he coached through serious discomfort.
Sanders’ Colorado squad lost 35-21 to TCU, falling 2-4 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 play on the season. According to the Associated Press, Sanders was observed sitting down at times during the game.
Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” Sanders told reporters. “It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy. … I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.
Per the AP, Sanders revealed that he has a doctor’s appointment on Monday.
“Sorry to get that out, but thank you for noticing,” Sanders said when responding to another question.
Sanders, 58, has dealt with multiple health issues in recent years. He had 2 toes amputated from his left foot in 2021 due to blood clot issues. Sanders had a procedure in 2023 to remove a blood clot in his right leg. That same year, he also had a procedure to straighten toes on his left foot.
More recently, Sanders revealed that he spent time away from the team to receive treatment for bladder cancer. His condition led to a portable toilet being placed on the Colorado sideline.
Sanders is in his sixth season of coaching college football and third with the Buffaloes. Colorado next hosts Iowa State at Folsom Field on Saturday.
