This year has been a fantastic year for coach Deion Sanders and his Jackson State Tigers. First of all, they went 11-1 and won the SWAC and will play South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl this coming Saturday.

But the biggest honor may be that the head coach won the prestigious Eddie Robinson Award for coach of the year. The award is named after Grambling head coach Eddie Robinson who was one of the winningest coaches in college football history with 408 wins in his career.

It comes a day after it was announced that Sanders’ son Shedeur was given the Jerry Rice Award for FCS best freshman.

The freshman threw for 3,056 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. He is the first HBCU player to ever win the award according to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
