Denver Broncos increasing reps for Drew Lock ahead of possible first start

Drew Lock’s long-awaited NFL (regular-season) debut could be coming soon.
The Denver Broncos have started to increase Lock’s practice reps. NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman reports that Lock could be getting the start on Sunday.
“We’re going to up Drew’s reps this week extensively in practice, see how he does with that and make a decision prior to the game,” Denver coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Wednesday. “Just feel like he’s had a good few weeks of limited practice. I think he’s ready to advance in his reps.”
Bergman notes that Fangio’s comments follow those made by Broncos GM John Elway in a recent radio interview. Elway discussed both Lock and current starter Brandon Allen, a former Arkansas quarterback. Lock has been on injured reserve since before the 2019 season started in September.
The Broncos are 3-8 with Allen (1-2) and Joe Flacco (2-6) as starting QBs this season. Considering Denver used a second-round pick on Lock, it only makes sense to start playing him (if he’s healthy).
Denver hosts the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Bergman’s article says a starting QB decision will come later this week.
