Former Texas A&M star Von Miller got paid this offseason after helping the Broncos win the Super Bowl, earning Super Bowl MVP honors along the way.

Now, it’s time for him to prove he’s worth the $114.5 million the Broncos are slated to give him over the next six years.

According to Denver defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, Miller is looking like he’s ready for an even better 2016 season:

“I think Von is better right now than he was at this time last year,” Phillips told reporters on Monday. “He seems to be more comfortable in everything. He’s really focused. I’m really pleased where he is right now. That seemed to be where he was at the end of last year.”

Phillips said Miller is eyeing a season-long award this year:

“[H]e came back really more focused than he started last year,” Phillips said. “Maybe it’s just the comfort in the defense, but I think he wanted to prove to everybody that maybe he’s the best player. Maybe he’s the defensive player of the year. He was the MVP in the Super Bowl, but I think his next goal is to be the defensive player of the year.”

The Broncos kick off the 2016 season at home on Thursday night in a Super Bowl 50 rematch against the Carolina Panthers.
