It wasn’t a good Saturday for D’Eriq King and the Miami offense against Alabama. King was held to a single touchdown while throwing for 178 yards and 2 interceptions on 23-of-31 passing as the Hurricanes fell 44-13 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
It was all Tide from the get-go as they scored on 5 of their 6 drives in the 1st half, racing to a 27-3 lead at the break.
On Saturday, King attributed part of the loss to the Hurricanes’ inability to string together positive plays early on, finding themselves in a massive hole with the Alabama offense dominating.
“We started slow,” King said after the game. “I think the first possession, we got a first down and tried to get tempo going, but we just couldn’t get in a rhythm. I think all first quarter, we were 3-and-out, 3-and-out, 3-and-out, so we’ve got to find a way to start faster.”
The Hurricanes’ first drive of the 3rd quarter encapsulated the game in a nutshell. King drove his team all the way down to the Alabama 1 yard line before the Tide defense stood tall, stuffing him on a quarterback sneak to take over on downs. Three plays later, Bryce Young connected with Jameson Williams for a 94-yard strike to put Alabama up 34-3.
“I don’t know what happened,” King said when asked about the Tide’s goal-line stand. “[I] didn’t get in. [I] should have dove or whatever. Should have got in. I don’t know.”
