Alabama running back Derrick Henry won the Doak Walker Award back on Dec. 10, but he hadn’t officially had it in his possession until now.
Henry — who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy a couple nights later — won the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back, the same night he won the Maxwell Award, given to college football’s player of the year.
Henry beat out two good backs for the honor in Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and LSU’s Leonard Fournette, who were the other finalists. McCaffrey was also a finalist for the Maxwell Award, along with Clemson QB Deshaun Watson.
Henry became just the second Crimson Tide player to win the Doak Walker Award. The other was Trent Richardson in 2011.
