Desmond Howard, Pete Thamel consider Clemson’s CFP chances after recent wins
Desmond Howard and Pete Thamel recently joined ESPN’s College Football Live to discuss the Clemson Tigers.
The members of the College Football Live panel were asked if Clemson could make the 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024.

“I love the fact that of course, they’re playing with a lot of confidence now. Cade Klubnik is playing well,” said Howard. “But, they’re going to have to up their game when they play against a team like Louisville.”
3-0 Louisville sits atop the ACC as of now. The Tigers will play the Cardinals in Week 10 in a matchup that could have postseason implications.
Ultimately, Howard isn’t ready to jump back on the Clemson bandwagon.
“Not so fast,” said the analyst.
Thamel disagreed with Howard’s take on Clemson, though.
“I’m going to push back on Des a little here,” Thamel explained. “Look, we’re in a 12-team Playoff era. Certainly, the competition isn’t what it once was, but I think there’s a clear path for Clemson if it keeps up some of this momentum and confidence.”
Thamel sees a path due to Clemson’s light schedule. The Cardinals are the only ranked team the Tigers have left on their schedule in the regular season. With preseason favorite Florida State already at 3 losses, Louisville and No. 7 Miami (FL) appear to be the biggest challengers for the ACC title.
“Look for Clemson to be hanging around come Selection Sunday,” said Thamel.
The Tigers’ next matchup is against ACC newcomer Stanford in Week 5.
