Desmond Howard has been against the expansion of the College Football Playoff in the past, but the times are changing.

With a vote set for Friday that could potentially lead to the Playoff expanding in 2024, Howard has changed his tune.

Appearing on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Thursday, Howard explained that the Playoff is going to expand at some point anyway, so there’s no sense in delaying it:

“I fought it for so long,” Howard said. “I didn’t want these student-athletes to have more games, extra games, but, you know, it’s inevitable. And why delay it? I understand they want to expedite this process. … This game is changing every day. … You can see where it’s heading, so I think they should expand the College Football Playoff because it’s inevitable.”

What will come of Friday’s meetings? It will be very closely watched in college football circles.
