More details have emerged regarding the Aug. 22 car crash that hospitalized South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson.

On Saturday morning, The Post and Courier’s David Cloninger reported that Robertson is now in stable condition following the accident, which was a 2-car collision. According to Cloninger, the driver of a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder was heading west on U.S. 76 near Chapin. At approximately 5:45 a.m. local time, the Nissan crossed left of center and struck Robertson — who was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe — head-on.

The driver of the Nissan passed away at the scene. Robertson was taken to Prisma Health with his injuries.

South Carolina released a statement about the incident to Cloninger on Friday night.

“[Travian Robertson] is currently in the hospital in stable condition,” the statement read. “We expect him to make a full recovery and be back out on the field soon. Please keep the families of those involved in the accident in your prayers and respect the Robertson family’s privacy during this time.”

Robertson played for the Gamecocks in college (2007-11). He joined the South Carolina coaching staff in 2023. Assistant DL coach Kevin Hubbard and defensive assistant Jordan Dove are slated to handle Robertson’s duties while he’s recovering.

The Gamecocks open their season against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday, Aug. 31.
