Details of NCAA’s six-week practice plan leading up to start of college football season revealed
After months of meetings and discussions, the NCAA Division I Council feels it has found a plan that will best work to get college football teams around the country ready for the coming season.
With athletes returning to campuses across the country in recent days and weeks, the NCAA is expected to reveal its six-week practice plan on Wednesday, according to Heather Dinich of ESPN.
For teams scheduled to open the season during Week 1, there currently are no SEC teams scheduled to open the season a week early like Florida did last season during the Week 0 showdown against Miami in Orlando, required workouts are scheduled to start July 13. After a few weeks of continued workouts, training camps around the country are set to begin on Aug. 7.
The schedule outlined allows for an additional two weeks of workouts and training leading up to a typical fall/preseason camp.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey offered this comment in regards to the coming season while considering the difficulties presented by the coronavirus.
“Our focus is on preparing to play, and we’re going to be fully attentive to the circumstances around the virus,” Sankey said. “That means we’re going to have our continuing dialogue with our presidents, chancellors, athletic directors, our medical advisory committee so that the people who are on the frontlines of health care can help us understand how to meet the needs that are real in front of us.”
