DeVonta Smith receives ESPY in latest award from decorated Alabama career

Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith added yet another award to his trophy case following a decorated career at Alabama.

On Saturday, he took home the ESPY for Best College Athlete, Men’s Sports.

“As a kid, this is something that you don’t think about, something like this happening,” Smith said. “It’s a blessing. None of this would be possible without God. To everybody who supported me, thank you. It means a lot. Just everybody who watched me along this journey. Just thank you and I’m glad to be here.”

Smith was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles after they traded up two spots to No. 10 in the first round of the NFL Draft. Smith had 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior. He was the first receiver to win the Heisman in 29 years.

Smith holds the SEC and Alabama career record for receiving touchdowns with 46, passing the previous mark of 31 held by Amari Cooper and Chris Doering of Florida.

Some of the awards he picked up after last season were the Associated Press Player of the Year, when he was the first wide receiver to ever win the award. He was also named as Player of the Year by CBS Sports, Maxwell Football Club, The Sporting News and Walter Camp. He won the Biletnikoff Award winner, and the Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation’s most versatile player.
