Dick Vitale blasts Lane Kiffin over CFP committee criticism

Dick Vitale had some pointed words for Lane Kiffin amidst the Ole Miss head coach’s criticism of the College Football playoff committee.

Kiffin has repeatedly called the committee out after the Rebels were left out of the 12-team field. He used Indiana and SMU as case studies on Friday and Saturday after both teams were bounced by Notre Dame and Penn State, respectively, in a pair of first-round games that more or less weren’t really competitive.

By Saturday afternoon, Vitale, who has long held an affinity for Notre Dame as both his daughters attended, had enough, saying that Kiffin should look at his own team’s regular-season performance before claiming that they weren’t treated fairly:

Vitale has a point: it wasn’t so much the fact that the Rebels lost 3 times than it was who they lost to. Kentucky certainly was the worst of the three losses — the Wildcats went 4-8 — and while there was room for a possible inclusion even after a loss to LSU, a defeat at Florida sealed the Rebels’ fate.

While Kiffin is at least sticking up for his program, that doesn’t change the fact that Ole Miss didn’t do enough to warrant inclusion in the College Football Playoff.
