Let the debate begin.

The Alabama Crimson Tide entered Saturday’s SEC Championship Game ranked No. 9 in the penultimate College Football Playoff standings and poised to earn an at-large berth in the 12-team CFP bracket.

But following No. 3 Georgia’s 28-7 domination of the Crimson Tide at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, social media was abuzz with opinion on whether a 10-3 Alabama team showed enough in 2025 to earn its spot.

Alabama’s loss opens the door for Miami out of the ACC to potentially earn an at-large berth, as did No. 11 BYU’s 34-7 loss to No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game earlier Saturday.

One of the central arguments for Alabama earning a spot is that teams in recent history have not been penalized for their performance in a conference championship.

Playing without running back Jam Miller, Alabama’s rushing game was completely muted Saturday by Georgia’s ferocious defense – as the Tide finished minus-3 net yards on the ground. Daniel Hill led Alabama (which attempted just 16 rushes) with 11 rushing yards on 4 carries. Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson finished with 212 passing yards on 19-of-39 attempts with a 23-yard TD pass to Germie Bernard and a costly interception.

Alabama, who defeated Georgia 24-21 in Athens on Sept. 27 to start a 4-game winning streak against ranked teams, will now await the final CFP reveal, which is set for noon ET Sunday.
