The chase for the 2025 Heisman Trophy is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing races in recent years, as there doesn’t really seem to be a real clear-cut favorite at this early juncture in the season.

A number of quarterbacks have lumped themselves together at the top of the oddsmakers’ lists, but so far, nobody has been able to take that definitive step that puts them out in front of the rest of the pack as we head into Week 5.

This means that, by and large, the Heisman is still anybody’s award to win at the moment. CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel believes that senior Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia is firmly in the mix for the highest individual honor in all of college football, including the gunslinger in his most recent top 3 list for the award.

“I mean, what a story there in the Music City, just an unbelievable player for Vanderbilt,” Neuheisel said in regards to Pavia.

It may seem a bit odd to those who haven’t been paying much attention to Pavia or the Commodores this season to see a Vandy player getting any sort of Heisman hype, but it is indeed very real for Pavia in 2025.

As of this writing, he has accumulated over 1,100 total yards, 9 total touchdowns, and leads the entire SEC in completion percentage with a 73.9% mark through his first 4 games of the season.

Vandy has a tune-up game against Utah State this Saturday before the Commodores head to Tuscaloosa in Week 6 for their highly anticipated rematch against the Alabama Crimson Tide. If Pavia can manage to knock off Kalen DeBoer and Bama once again, and do it on the road, then that Heisman hype is going to explode.
