Disney CEO Bob Iger on Thursday during the company’s earnings call announced a new streaming sports service coming next year called ESPN Plus.
Iger said on the call that “direct-to-consumer” streaming services were his highest priority for 2018.
The app will be based on a redesigned ESPN app that will allow users to view highlights, stream ESPN programming and subscribe to thousands of additional live sporting events. Iger said it’s a “one-of-a-kind” product with “more live sports than you can get on any channel, site or app.”
It reportedly will debut ahead of the company’s plans for its ad-free Disney streaming service, which Iger said is coming in late 2019, The Wrap reported.
Iger said that pricing for the app will be announced next year.

ESPN's not-ESPN streaming service will be called ESPN Plus. Iger says coming in spring. Company had previously been aiming for late March; don't know if that's pushed back further.
