Durkin has been a SEC defensive coordinator in each of the past 5 seasons. He was with Ole Miss in 2020-21 and Texas A&M in 2022-23. He joined Auburn this past offseason after the Aggies moved on from head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Durkin took a bit of a pay cut to come to Ole Miss. According to USA Today’s assistant coach salary database, Durkin was making $1.6 million in 2023 at Texas A&M. That figure had him as the 15th highest-paid assistant in the country last season.
Auburn will be hoping to take a big step forward next season on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, Auburn gave up an average of 5.65 yards per play. That ranked 10th amongst 14 SEC programs in 2023.
