DJ Lagway has been limited by a shoulder injury during spring ball, but he appears to be making progress toward a return.

Florida coach Billy Napier told reporters on Saturday that Lagway will be “100 percent” at the start of OTAs and will start throwing in “a couple of weeks.”

That’s good news for Florida football fans who are hoping to see the Gators’ star quarterback in action this fall. Lagway’s shoulder ailment goes back to high school and reportedly may require surgery at some point, but that’s not currently the plan ahead of a pivotal 2025 campaign in Gainesville.

Lagway dazzled as a true freshman last year in place of the injured Graham Mertz. He threw for 1,915 yards while averaging an impressive 10 yards per attempt. Lagway was a big reason why the Gators were ultimately able to secure 8 wins last season despite enduring one of the nation’s toughest schedules.

Entering 2025, expectations have risen even further in Gainesville. But for Florida to take another step, it will need a big season from Lagway under center. Time will tell if he’ll be healthy enough for Florida to reach its potential this fall, but things seem to be trending in the right direction for the Gators.
