DK Metcalf had a special moment before his Seattle Seahawks kicked off against the Tennessee Titans.

The star wide receiver got to meet his American Sign Language teacher in person for the first time ahead of the game. Darrell Utley, Metcalf’s instructor, is based in Tennessee, and Metcalf’s team just happened to be in town for a game on Christmas Eve.

The receiver invited his teacher to the game and embraced his family before the game.

Utley didn’t even realize initially that his client is an NFL star.

“I had no idea what his walk of life was. I just knew he wanted to learn,” Utley told NPR’s Morning Edition.

Metcalf first became interested in sign language in college when he took an ASL class at Ole Miss. Now, the receiver is trying to take his knowledge a step further by doing these lessons with Utley. The receiver has demonstrated his ASL knowledge on the field multiple times. Metcalf has celebrated in the end zone using ASL multiple times.

Metcalf’s Seahawks are in Nashville and are looking for their 2nd straight win after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
