Drew Gilbert was a leader on a Tennessee Volunteers squad that spent much of the 2022 season in the No. 1 spot in the rankings and won the SEC title.
Now, he’s a member of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, the Single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, located in North Carolina.
The 28th overall pick from the 2022 MLB Draft wasted no time making his impact felt. As you can see below, he launched a 2-run home run for his first hit in the Carolina league:

Gilbert hit 11 home runs and drove in 70 runs for the Vols this past season. If he can continue that level of production, he’ll fly through the minor league system.
