Duke files lawsuit against Darian Mensah to prevent transfer, per report
The ongoing Darian Mensah transfer saga took another turn on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report from Sportico, Duke has filed a lawsuit to prevent Darian Mensah from entering the transfer portal. The lawsuit cites a 2-year NIL agreement Mensah signed with Duke when he transferred there following the 2024 season.
Mensah’s NIL contract with Duke doesn’t end until Dec. 31, 2026. Per Sportico, Duke is seeking an “injunction and restraining order” in Durham County (N.C.) Superior Court, which would effectively bar Mensah from transferring.
According to Mensah’s attorney, Darren Heitner, the temporary restraining order has already been denied but other issues are still to be decided.
If Mensah is able to transfer, he’s expected to land at Miami for the 2026 season. The Hurricanes are in search of a quarterback as Carson Beck has now exhausted his collegiate eligibility.
There is no known timetable for these legal issues to be resolved, but the outcome of this case could prove to be precedent-setting and have a major impact on the future of college sports.
