Duke is already a massive underdog entering its Week 1 clash against Alabama. The Blue Devils’ upset bid just got even more challenging.
Jake Bobo, projected to be a starting wide receiver for coach David Cutcliffe’s squad, is reportedly out indefinitely. The Associated Press reports that Bobo broke his collarbone in practice and had surgery Friday, according to a Duke team spokesman. In most cases, multiple months of recovery follow a broken collarbone.
Bobo had 10 catches for 167 yards and a touchdown last season. The Blue Devils enter the 2019 season tasked with replacing with their top four receivers from the 2018 campaign.
Prominent Las Vegas sportsbooks (Caesars and Westgate) have Alabama as 34.5-point favorites for the Aug. 31 meeting at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. Betradar and Unibet, per ESPN Chalk, have Alabama as 33.5-point favorites.
