JT Barrett was the established starter at quarterback for Ohio State in 2016 and 2017, but behind him, a battle was raging between a couple of guys who would go on to become stars.

Dwayne Haskins (a former first-round pick now with the Washington Football Team) and Joe Burrow (the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and 2020 No. 1 overall pick for the Cincinnati Bengals) went to war on a daily basis.

On Monday, Haskins joined FOX’s “Ring Chronicles” and revealed that, while he and Burrow have a great relationship now, they couldn’t stand each other during those 2 seasons (via 247Sports):

“I love Joe but during that battle, for almost two years, me and Joe couldn’t stand each other,” Haskins said on Monday’s Ring Chronicles series from FOX. “Every day, whether it was morning workouts or when we had to do mat drills and it’d be me and him on the mat drill, it was gritty. Or it was practice and me and him are trying to get in front of each other to get a rep to throw to one of the starting receivers. It was always this heated competition but we knew we got the best out of each other. He made it hard for me and I made it hard for him and I didn’t let him take it away.”

Haskins said he and Burrow still talk to this day:

“When he did leave we had conversations about where he wanted to go and he said he wanted to go to LSU,” Haskins recalled. “I said ‘do your thing. I believe in you.’ And we still talk to this day and I was very proud of him for what he did last year.”

With Haskins in Washington and Burrow in Cincinnati, the 2 former Buckeyes’ paths won’t cross often in the NFL. However, they are currently scheduled to meet on Nov. 22 this year at Washington.
