One more early enrollee means one less spot in the recruiting class for the South Carolina coaching staff to sweat about until signing day.

The Gamecocks sports information staff sent a press release on Wednesday morning that detailed the addition of Chris Smith to its list of incoming freshmen that have enrolled for the spring semester.

Smith, who is rated as a three-star cornerback in the 247 Sports composite rankings, will now have the opportunity to join the Gamecocks for their first practices under Will Muschamp this spring.

Here is more info on Smith from the school’s release:

Multi-position athlete who will compete at the cornerback position, but could play on either side of the ball… graduated from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C. in December 2015 and enrolled at South Carolina in January… coached by Strait Herron… helped the Stallions to a 14-1 record as a senior and the 3A state title for the second-straight season… played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas… as a junior, he logged 71 tackles and five interceptions along with 600 all-purpose yards… considered a two-star prospect by Rivals and by 247Sports… is the son of former Arkansas defensive back Pat Burris and the nephew of Notre Dame standout Jeff Burris.
