After Wednesday delivered a flurry of coaching news, ECU provided some more Thursday.

The Pirates announced that they will not retain coach Scottie Montgomery for a fourth season, effective immediately. Defensive coordinator David Blackwell will serve as interim coach for ECU against North Carolina State on Saturday, a game that was scheduled to make up for September contests missed by both teams due to Hurricane Florence.

Montgomery went 3-9 in his first two seasons with the Pirates, and he leaves with his team staring down another three-win season. He compiled a 4-20 record in AAC play in his first head coaching job.

ECU is also searching for a new athletic director, so it may be awhile before Montgomery’s replacement is named.
