While the search for the program’s next defensive coordinator may have taken a long time, once Ed Orgeron landed Daronte Jones to lead the Tigers defense, the defensive staff around the assistant has come into place quickly.

Following the news that Miami defensive coordinator Blake Baker has joined Orgeron’s program as the new linebackers coach in Baton Rouge, LSU has just announced the official hiring of Andre Carter as the new defensive line coach on the bayou.

Carter comes to LSU after serving two seasons as the defensive line coach for the New York Jets. Prior to landing the position, Carter served as an assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins.

“Andre was an outstanding defensive lineman for a long time in the NFL and now he’s translating what he did and learned as a player to those he’s coaching,” Orgeron said. “Andre is a very bright up-and-coming coach who will do a great job with our defensive line. With our entire defensive line coming back, they are going to be able to learn firsthand from an NFL veteran on what it takes to become a dominant player.

“I’m excited to fill out our staff with Andre. I think we have assembled as fine a coaching staff as there is in college football. I know our players are going to benefit tremendously from our coaches, not only on the field, but off the field as well.”

LSU’s new defensive line coach was an All-America defensive end for California as well as a two-time first team All-Pac 10 player. Following the end of his college career, Carter was selected with the No. 7 overall in the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Here is a look at Carter’s coaching history
