Arik Gilbert may no longer be suiting up in Baton Rouge but Ed Orgeron still has high hopes for the talented receiver/tight end from Georgia.
During his only season with LSU, Gilbert managed to haul in 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. His season was cut short after making the decision to opt-out of the final two games of the season.
Following the conclusion of LSU’s disappointing 5-5 season, Gilbert entered the NCAA transfer portal.
While LSU worked hard to get Gilbert back on the team, the receiver ultimately decided to transfer back home to Georgia.
During his Monday appearance at SEC Media Days, Orgeron was asked to comment on Gilbert’s potential.
“We wish Arik the best,” Orgeron said. “He’s an outstanding young man, his momma is a great lady, I think he’s going to be an All-Pro tight end, All-American. Will have a chance to be a first-round draft choice.”
Gilbert is the highest-rated tight end prospect in the history of 247Sports Composite Recruiting rankings.
