On Thursday afternoon, Matt Zenitz of AL.com broke the news that LSU sophomore defensive back Kenan Jones had decided to enter his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Not long after, Jones himself confirmed the news with his own tweet.

“I have officially entered my name into the NCAA transfer portal,” Jones wrote. “I want to thank Louisiana State University, and most importantly my teammates for allowing me to be part of such a program. My recruitment is now officially open!”

It came before Ed Orgeron’s Thursday afternoon press conference, where he made a brief comment on the Jones news.

“He decided to enter the transfer portal and we wish him the best,” Orgeron said.

Coming out Berwick (Louisiana), Jones was a 4-star wide receiver prospect on the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2018. Jones was listed as a safety on the LSU roster, having participated in two 2019 games (Northwestern State, Texas), but recording no other statistics.
