No one quite knew what to expect when Ed Orgeron took over the LSU job midseason.
At the time of Les Miles’s departure, the Tigers were sitting at 2-2. The energy level around the program was akin to that of a morgue. LSU was looking for someone to step up and lead the program.
Orgeron has not only led the program, but has it absolutely thriving.
The interim head coach has led LSU to three-straight victories — including two over conference opponents (Mizzou, Ole Miss). Statistically speaking, it’s quite impressive as to what Orgeron’s accomplished in such a short amount of time:
With win tonite, Ed Orgeron becomes 1st coach in @LSUfootball modern day school history to win 1st 3 games he coached by double-digits. #LSU

In Ed Orgeron's 3 games as head coach, #LSU is 3-0 while outscoring opponents by a combined score of 125-38.

A key stat in #LSU's past 3 games: Tigers have only allowed 7 points combined in the second half. Mizzou had a TD, USM/Ole Miss scoreless.

.@LSUfootball has 13 rushing TD's in the past 3 games, its most productive stretch since 1997 (14, which is tied for school record).

Both the offense and defense has been electric. There’s a palpable excitement emanating from this team. There may not be another program in the country operating with as much confidence as LSU is right now.
Looking at the remainder of the regular season schedule, it’s not for the faint of heart:
- Alabama
- at Arkansas
- Florida
- at Texas A&M
If LSU manages to win at least three of these contests, many will consider this season a success. Should the Tigers beat Alabama and the run the table, AD Joe Alleva will have a difficult time not appointing Orgeron as the official head coach.
A native Louisianan, Orgeron would love nothing more than to command this program for years to come.
