Ed Orgeron opens up about facing his son this week: ‘We’ll compete like we always do’

LSU had a disappointing start to its season Saturday, falling 38-27 to UCLA at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night.
With a home game against McNeese State up next on the schedule, everyone expects the Tigers to rebound with a win.
The game, however, will have an interesting subplot, as the Cowboys are quarterbacked by Cody Orgeron, the son of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.
McNeese State lost its season opener 42-36 to West Florida on Saturday, but the younger Orgeron impressed. The 6-1, 192-pound senior completed 30-of-48 passes for 361 yards and 2 touchdowns, while adding 35 yards and a TD on the ground.
Ed Orgeron was asked Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference about playing against his son.
“Obviously, it’s different, but I’ve got to put that aside,” the LSU coach said. “I’ve got to put the Tigers first. He’s got to put McNeese first. We’ll compete like we always do.”
Added Orgeron about his assessment of his son’s play last week: “I was very impressed with his release, with the play-calling. He made plays with his feet. His receivers did a good job. … He’s feeling confident right now.”
