LSU held off Syracuse 35-26 on Saturday night, but it didn’t look too glamorous in the win.
Still, the Tigers and their head coach, Ed Orgeron, were able to put away the Orange late in the game.
Orgeron spoke to the Baton Rouge media after the game and offered some insight on some things he liked, and quite a few things he didn’t.
He noted the Tigers have a tough slate ahead.
Orgeron on #LSU thru 4 games: “We’re very inconsistent right now. Need to get it going before the meat of the schedule.”

LSU’s offensive line often looked out-manned in the game.
“Without watching the film the Syracuse defensive line won,” Ed Orgeron says. #LSU

Orgeron on #LSU run game lacking: “Their defensive line was penetrating.”

Orgeron: I thought the offense did a little better when Adrian Magee got in there. #LSU

Orgeron said the coaching staff wanted to get freshman Myles Brennan some meaningful reps with the game on the line, but that doesn’t mean senior Danny Etling won’t be the starter in the future.
Orgeron: “Danny is our quarterback. Myles didn’t beat him out or anything.” #LSU

“I think the long ball saved us tonight,” Ed Orgeron says in reference to the long scoring passes by Etling to Sullivan and Davis. #LSU

The Tigers’ head coach spoke about LSU’s injuries and lack of depth on defense.
Orgeron on #LSU defensive front injuries, etc.: ” We’re thin. It’s going to get tough down the stretch here.”

Orgeron: John Battle should be okay. Injury doesn’t require surgery. Hopes he can get back soon “We’re thin back there.” #LSU

Rashard Lawrence hurt his other ankle, Ed Orgeron says. #LSU
“Hopefully it doesn’t keep him out for long.”

LSU star running back Derrius Guice was missing in the second half. He’s been battling an undisclosed injury.
Orgeron on Guice: “He wanted to play. Limited his reps. That’s what we did.” #LSU

Orgeron said Derrius Guice is “okay” #LSU

While Orgeron was impressed with Etling for the most part, he noted the Tigers need help in one area of the throw game:
Orgeron on intermediate passing game: “We need it terribly.” #LSU

At least the Tigers weren’t the most penalized team in the SEC this week.
Orgeron: We worked very hard on penalties this week.
LSU finished with just 3 penalties – all on defense, two very late.
