Ed Orgeron describes “Tell the Truth Monday” as a way to reveal what LSU did well, or struggled with, in its most recent game. This week, there was a list of issues.
Orgeron discussed them during his regular appearance on “Off the Bench” on 104.5 ESPN on Tuesday morning. Orgeron said the coaching staff could have put players in a better position.
“Our team was in a great spirit yesterday, I believe we have an excellent football team, we’re going to bounce ball,” Orgeron said. “The guys had a good practice yesterday.”
Orgeron was asked how to stop a loss like the UCLA game from “snowballing” into another game.
“First of all, the leadership of the team,” Orgeron said. “Before I got back in the locker room, the leadership of the team was talking to the team already. That’s a good sign, nobody was hanging their head on the way back.”
The running game has come under criticism, and Orgeron admitted that it needs to be more diverse.
“It didn’t happen in the game, that’s my responsibility,” Orgeron said, and guaranteed that it would be better this week.
Orgeron said Jay Ward is day to day, but will be fine. It’s nothing that would keep him out for a long period of time.
About the new coordinators, Orgeron said they worked very hard in fall camp, and they’re very loyal.
“They’re very disappointed and none of us had success because we didn’t win,” Orgeron said. “That all falls on me, I can’t put it on them, but they have to do better, they know that. We had an extensive meeting on Sunday. I do believe you’re going to see this team get better and the coordinators get better as the season progresses.”
Orgeron added that the team has great leadership, some hungry guys, and players who are returning from missing time during fall camp to get better.
