Ed Orgeron’s LSU Tigers survived another top-10 test on Saturday, taking down division rival Auburn 23-20.
LSU, currently ranked No. 2, is now 8-0 heading into a bye week before the Game of the Century Part II against Alabama. After the game, Orgeron discussed his QB’s toughness, injuries to standout DBs Grant Delpit and Derek Stingley Jr., Saturday’s gameplan and more.
Here are the highlight of what Oregeron said in his postgame press conference:
- “What a tremendous win.”
- Orgeron credits Auburn with having one of the best defensive lines he’s ever seen.
- On RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire: He made a difference. Orgeron notes that passing game helped set up the run.
- LSU planned to use tempo to try to tire out Auburn defense.
- On Joe Burrow taking big hits: “He’s got that linebacker mentality.”
- “A lesser team would not have that game today.”
- “It was a gut check tonight. It was a gut check against Florida. It was a gut check against Texas.”
- Orgeron thinks LSU might have started the game too fired up, resulting in penalties. “We’ve got to be smarter than that.”
- When asked if LSU should be No. 1: “I just know we’re 8-0. We won a football game. That’s out of our hands.”
- Orgeron doesn’t think injuries to Grant Delpit and Derek Stingley Jr. are serious.
