Garrett Brumfield couldn’t be coming back at a better time for No. 4 LSU.

The senior left guard appears ready to play against No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron said during his Monday press conference. Nicknamed “Bruiser,” Brumfield has missed the last four games after suffering a knee injury against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 22.

“I talked to (the team trainer) this morning, and he feels that Garrett will be ready to go and be about as healthy as he possibly can right now,” Orgeron said. “Garrett brings a tremendous amount of leadership and confidence. He also makes the calls and helps the left tackle.”

Orgeron also said that true freshman Chasen Hines will be able play Saturday should Brumfield need a few breaks here or there.

“(Hines is) physical, athletic, and he can handle this type of game,” Orgeron said.

Brumfield’s return will be a huge boost for an LSU offensive line that has been struck by a slew of injuries, forcing Orgeron to trot out multiple combinations throughout the season. With standout players like Raekwon Davis and Quinnen Williams up front for the Crimson Tide, controlling the line of scrimmage will be crucial for the Tigers as they try to finally snap their losing streak against Alabama.

LSU has lost seven straight in the series, dating back to the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. Orgeron said the losing streak is quietly acknowledged among the team.

“We don’t talk about that; it’s not something that’s discussed,” Orgeron said. “All of us feel it. We understand the importance of beating Alabama at LSU. I think it’ll play into some of the motivation this week. I don’t have to say it, though.”

The Tigers (7-1, 4-1 SEC) host the Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0) at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.
