Ed Orgeron weighs in on power struggle at Auburn, how to have a successful program

Ed Orgeron has worked under some great coaches, including Jimmy Johnson at Miami and Pete Carroll at USC.
He also led LSU to the 2019 national championship in one of the greatest individual seasons by a college football team ever.
On Tuesday, he joined “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX to share his thoughts on the Auburn situation. He said he thinks it’s possible some programs are being more influenced by boosters as more NIL money pours in to players:

“I’ve been fortunate to be in some places where the head coach has total control,” Orgeron said. “I think that’s where it starts — Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carroll, those guys had total control. Those were championship programs. … When the head coach has total control of his program, I think that’s key. Now, as this comes into play, I don’t know what’s going on at Auburn, but I know this — the NIL, more money is coming into play, the more people who give money, some of them are going to want control. I guess some of them want to coach, I don’t know. I don’t know that stuff, but the places I’ve been, I haven’t seen it personally. It hasn’t trickled down to me. I’ve always had great relationships with those guys. …
“I learned this from Monte Kiffin — coaches coach, players play, administrators administrate and boosters boost. If we can keep it like that, I think that’s the way to have a great program.”
