Wednesday was a big day for LSU coach Ed Orgeron as he signed 19 players in a 2019 recruiting class of 21 total pledges ranked No. 4 in the nation. The class is headlined by a trio of 5-star recruits, including CB Derek Stingley Jr.

Stingley not only signed early but also plans to enroll early. As soon as he enrolls at LSU, he can begin practicing with the football team. While he can take part in LSU’s Fiesta Bowl practices, he can’t actually suit up in Arizona, though Ed Orgeron would play him if he could.

“I wish he could play in the bowl,” Orgeron told the media Wednesday, according to Glenn Guilbeau of Lafayette Daily Advertiser. Stingley is rated the No. 1 cornerback, No. 1 Louisiana product and No. 3 overall player in the class of 2019 on the 247Sports Composite.

Guilbeau uses the quote in a column that makes a strong case for letting the new signees play in the bowl games, a worthwhile read for college football fans. Unfortunately for Tigers fans wanting to see Stingley in an LSU uniform, practices and the spring game will have to suffice until Aug. 31, 2019 when Georgia Southern comes to Baton Rouge to open the season.
