The annual Egg Bowl matchup between Ole Miss and Mississippi State is currently underway down in Starkville, and the Bulldogs are attempting to secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 2023 with an upset of the seventh-ranked Rebels.

This rivalry boasts a long history of wacky moments, and Mississippi State continued this tradition in the first quarter against Ole Miss, as Bulldogs’ safety Isaac Smith actually trucked his own teammate.

The insane play occurred as Smith’s teammate, DeAgo Brumfield, was attempting to corral Ole Miss wide receiver Harrison Wallace III. Smith came flying in to help clean up the play, but instead of tackling Wallace, he laid out Brumfield instead.

Smith has a reputation as one of the biggest hitters in the entire Mississippi State secondary, and he has also been one of head coach Jeff Lebby’s leaders on defense all season.

The electric safety was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2024 after he led the entire conference in tackles, and he has followed that up by putting together another stellar campaign.

He missed the Bulldogs’ game last weekend against Arkansas with a lower-body injury, but he has been full-go for the Bulldogs against the Rebels, and it’s clear from this play that he is looking to make a big hit on every play he can, even if his own teammates end up getting caught in the crosshairs.
