Egg Bowl recruiting battle: Key prospect for Ole Miss, Mississippi State sets commitment date
An important recruiting target for Ole Miss and Mississippi State is announcing his commitment on Monday, Dec. 7.
Demarcus Smith, a 3-star defensive end prospect from Birmingham, Ala., just announced he’ll be choosing between the Rebels and Bulldogs on Monday at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Smith is the No. 46 strong-side defensive end in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. The same service has him as the No. 710 overall player and the No. 30 prospect in the state of Alabama for this class.
According to 247Sports’ Crystal Ball projections, Smith is an Ole Miss lean.
If he does pick the Rebels, it would be the rarely-seen re-commitment. Smith originally committed to Ole Miss back in August before de-committing in October.
Ole Miss’ recruiting class could use the boost. The Rebels are currently ranked No. 55 nationally and No. 13 in the SEC, per 247Sports. Mississippi State is in much better shape with the No. 32 class nationally and No. 9 class in the SEC.
Smith is listed at 6-foot-4, 272 pounds. He attends Parker High School in Birmingham.
