Eli Drinkwitz addresses the ‘value’ Kirby Moore brings to Mizzou program

Eli Drinkwitz gave up play-calling this season, passing it on to OC Kirby Moore.

The Tigers have had a very strong offense since, too. Brady Cook, Luther Burden and Cody Schrader make up one of the best offensive units in the SEC this season.

On Wednesday, Drinkwitz was asked how important a trustable guy like Moore is to have around and how he’s transformed how the Tigers want to do things offensively.

Here’s what he had to say.

“Very impressed with Coach Moore and the value he’s added to our program, not just as a play-caller, but as a leader and a guy who has worked really well with the offensive staff and continually put us in opportunities to win games and has done a really good job of coaching and mentoring Brady Cook, finding ways for us to be explosive with Luther Burden. Getting the ball to Cody Schrader.”

He continued…

“He took over some tough situations, right,” Drinkwitz said. “We lost our offensive line coach in the middle of the spring, and had to replace him, and he hasn’t wavered on that and is really proud of what he’s accomplished for us and it’s just beginning of his young career, but he’s done a really excellent job for me.”

It’s not just the offensive side of the ball that Moore has aided in for the Tigers program. Drinkwitz told reporters Wednesday that Moore’s mastery of the offense has given him more time to delve into player relationships, recruiting and more.

“But then it also helps me with every other aspect of the organization, player relationships, recruiting, family relationships, as far as families dealing with agents through NIL, dealing with NIL opportunities, roster management, recruiting,” Drinkwitz said. “I don’t think the job of a head football coach is going to get any lighter. We’re all trying to get ready for what’s going to implode here in 3 weeks as far as roster management. That’s taken up half my morning this morning.”
