Eli Drinkwitz offered a lofty comparison for dynamic wide receiver Luther Burden III after his stellar performance in Week 3 vs. Kansas State lifted Missouri to a 3-0 record.

During an appearance on Sirius XM College Sports Radio, the Missouri head coach compared the sensational sophomore to an NFL Pro Bowler after he tallied 114 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Burden III has caught 22 passes for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.

“He’s a playmaker, man. I don’t know that I’ve been around anybody with the ball in his hands is as tough of a combination of speed and breaks tackles,” Drinkwitz said. “I think the closest comparison that I’ve seen is Deebo Samuel. He’s just a big, physical runner. Man, when the stage is big, he’s even bigger. Excited to have him.”

Burden III is a native of St. Louis who arrived at Missouri as the nation’s No. 2 wide receiver according to 247Sports.

Drinkwitz is optimistic that Burden III is proving to local recruits the benefit of staying home.

“I hope it shows everybody in the state of Missouri how impactful it is to have some of our best players stay and play for our home state,” Drinkwitz said. “I hope it shows these other guys who are thinking about going out of state, they’ll look around the country at these in-state players that are playing for their schools and making an impact. They sure have a whole heck of a lot of success. That’s what we’re trying to recreate here.”

Missouri will aim to remain undefeated when they clash with Memphis on Sept. 23 (7:30 p.m. EST/ESPNU).
