The preseason AP Top 25 was officially released this past Monday, and to no one’s surprise, the SEC led the way with 10 teams in the poll. However, despite all the talk about the SEC’s dominance, one team was suspiciously missing: the Mizzou Tigers.

Mizzou is entering the 2025 season unranked. It finished in the receiving votes section of the preseason poll — a de facto 32nd. When asked about not being ranked by Paul Finebaum on his show on Thursday, Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz gave an answer only he would.

“I told the team…  It’s unimportant, but occasionally, you check out your ex-girlfriend’s Instagram page,” he said.

The Tigers added Beau Pribula from Penn State in a highly publicized transfer pickup after he left the Nittany Lions before the College Football Playoff started. Pribula is a big-time athlete who has a chance to excel for the Tigers. However, the biggest pickup for Missouri might be its new running back, Ahmad Hardy, who was a star as a freshman for Louisiana-Monroe, with 1,351 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 237 carries.

The rest of Mizzou’s roster also has a lot of talent capable of putting the Tigers on top. After the last 2 seasons, during which they won at least 10 games, Mizzou has earned the benefit of the doubt from some national media contingents.

Eli Drinkwitz’s point is that Missouri is aware of not being ranked but is not concentrating on it. Given enough time, Missouri might be ranked very early in the season due to its talent.
