Eli Drinkwitz not focused on stakes vs. Georgia: ‘Worry about being 1-0 this week’
Eli Drinkwitz has led Missouri to being one of the top teams in the SEC this season, and with that comes newfound pressure.
The Tigers have a chance to reach the SEC Championship and possibly even more postseason glory, but it all comes down to this weekend against Georgia.
If Missouri can upset the Bulldogs, it will be well on its way to the SEC Championship, but Drinkwitz is making sure his team doesn’t play this Saturday’s game with the thought process of it being more significant than any other game.
“Ultimately yeah, you want to be playing your best at the end and you want to be playing for something meaningful, which is what we’ve been able to do,” Drinkwitz said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “I think the key is to not make any one game bigger than the next. This game is important to us, but it’s not any more important than the Vanderbilt game was, or the Kentucky game was, or homecoming versus South Carolina was. They all have a level of significance to them, and so we’re just trying to approach it with that mindset and worry about being 1-0 this week.”
Drinkwitz’s mindset of being “1-0 this week” has worked well for him so far, and now he’s hoping to get the biggest win of the season so far against Georgia.
But the Bulldogs know what Missouri is capable of and will be ready for the Tigers. Georgia hasn’t given up a win since 2021, and it isn’t looking to start that on Saturday.
