Eli Drinkwitz offers candid comments about Mizzou’s response after LSU

Eli Drinkwitz has a new twist on “Toughness Tuesday” for this week after a recent 49-39 loss to No. 22 LSU.

Drinkwitz and the Tigers get a chance to bounce back this week with a road game Saturday night at Kentucky.

“It’s not always ‘sunshine and rainbows’ as the Rocky quote goes, right? It’s about ‘getting hit and getting back up’ and moving forward, and that’s what we’ve got to do,” Drinkwitz told the media on Tuesday. “And the real challenge is … we’ve got to do our process better because we didn’t get the result we wanted, and we’ve got to improve specifically on ‘Toughness Tuesday’ [and] we’ve got to be better on our ‘Toughness Tuesday’ in our situational football, but it still doesn’t guarantee us a result. We’re going to go lay it on the line, and we’ll see what it is.”

The “Toughness Tuesday” practice slogan at Mizzou goes back several years. This year’s Mizzou squad enjoyed the fruits of “Toughness Tuesday” with a 5-0 start before then-No. 23 LSU spoiled the party on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.

“Disappointed but not devastated I think is the best way to describe it. We’re all disappointed in the outcome, but we’re not devastated,” Drinkwitz said. “We understand as competitors, that’s the thing about this league. Every week you’re going to go out there, and you’re going to compete and lay it on the line. That doesn’t guarantee you the result you want, but you’ve got to get yourself back up. You’ve got to pick yourself back up, and you’ve got to put it back together again. That’s life.”
