Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz isn’t holding back his feelings on the state of the College Football Playoff.

In a Marty & McGee appearance recently shared by the SEC Network, Drinkwitz provided a “strong opinion” on the current 12-team format.

“Is it going to be best long-term for the fans in 5 years, in 10 years, that only 12% of college football is involved in a playoff? NO,” Drinkwitz said.

The Mizzou coach, who won SEC Coach of the Year in 2023, has been vocal about expanding the field to 30 teams, arguing it would give more programs across the country a chance to compete for a national championship.

“If I’m in the SEC and you’re telling me what’s the easiest path, an automatic and you’re telling me you have to be in a beauty pageant? Well I’m not into beauty pageants,” Drinkwitz said. “I’d rather play it on the football field. As a competitor, I can turn my head on the pillow and say ‘I had a chance, I had an opportunity’ but I’m not going to be able to lay my head on the pillow and say ‘I couldn’t get in front of the committee and convince the jury of my peers to put me in the playoffs.’ It’s ridiculous.”
