Eli Drinkwitz weighs in on Brady Cook’s performance, Mizzou’s loss to Army

Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers fell to Army 24-22 on a last-second field goal in the Armed Forces Bowl on Wednesday night.
The Tigers were without several of their top players, including star RB Tyler Badie, but the performance still left some fans wanting more.
Here’s some of what Drinkwitz had to say in his postgame press conference (via the Columbia Daily Tribune):
On QB Brady Cook’s play:
“I thought he played really well. Very calm, collected. I thought he had great composure, did a really nice job on that last drive to give us a chance to win the game. And we needed to do a better job protecting him. A couple of key sacks, one in the red zone that proved very costly in the game. But overall I thought Brady played pretty well.”
On the effort from a short-handed defense:
“I thought they played, I mean, really as well as I could have hoped considering (as) short-handed as we were and and all the different things. Obviously, we wish we could have had a different result on that last drive. But I thought they they played their butt off.”
On what this bowl performance says about the Tigers moving forward:
“Really don’t know. I mean, there’s still a lot to be determined. This team will never be the same again. Just losing the seniors, losing people to transfers, incoming recruits coming in. So I think there is some preview of what the future holds, as far as Elijah Young at running back and I thought some very young receivers really stepped up. And obviously, Brady really stepped up. Defensively, I remember looking over at one point in the game and seeing at least six starters who started the season on the sidelines, maybe even seven. JC (Carlies) was out, Martez (Manuel) was out. Chris Turner, Kobe Whiteside, Akial Byers. We’ll see. I don’t know.”
Mizzou is bringing in an elite 2022 recruiting class. We’ll see if the incoming freshmen can help put 2021’s disappointing 6-7 record behind them.
