Elijah Robinson praises Marcel Reed, names biggest lesson learned for young QB

Elijah Robinson’s Texas A&M squad was already battered and thin heading into the Texas Bowl against No. 20 Oklahoma State.
But bad transitioned to worse soon after kickoff. Jaylen Henderson, the Aggies’ 3rd-string QB and starter for Wednesday’s game, was injured on the first play of the game and did not return. That means Marcel Reed, a 4-star freshman who had completed just 1 pass as an Aggie prior to Wednesday, would assume control of the offense.
And given the circumstances, Reed played very well. Surprisingly well. He finished his first legitimate college football appearance 20 of 33 on passing attempts for 361 yards and an interception, finding the end zone once with his legs.

Following the game, Robinson praised his young QB and even drew a lesson from his first true action as an Aggie. That lesson? A QB doesn’t have to win the game with each and every play.
Elijah Robinson on Marcel Reed: “Everything he does is be a competitor. The thing he can learn from this is that he doesn’t have to win the game with every play.”
“You have to give that guy a lot of credit to step right in and play almost the entire game.”

Reed may be a work in progress, but it’s hard not be excited about what he put to the field in such strange circumstances. His development will be of sincere interest to Aggies fans across the coming seasons.
The Aggies fell to the No. 20 Cowboys 31-23, which finalizes their record at 7-6. It may be a disappointing season, but with the arrival of Mike Elko comes a fresh start for those in College Station.
Let’s see what Elko and Co. can do.
