Embarrassing statistic shows just how bad North Carolina’s first half was vs. JMU
The North Carolina Tar Heels are putting on an atrocious defensive showing in Week 4.
In the 1st half of the game against James Madison, the Tar Heels allowed a whopping 53 points. The Dukes forced 4 turnovers in the 1st half and racked up over 400 total yards of offense.
At halftime, the Tar Heels trailed 53-21. Those 53 points are more than most teams score in an entire game. In fact, 53 points in 1 half is also more points than the Tar Heels’ men’s basketball team allowed in any 1st half during the 2023-24 season.

This is an insane stat to believe, but unfortunately for Tar Heel fans, it’s true.
To be fair, the Tar Heel defense wasn’t exactly helped out by the offense or special teams. A blocked punt, 2 interceptions, and 2 lost fumbles made sure that the Tar Heel defense was consistently in the worst position possible. Still, it’s inexcusable to let a Group of 5 team drop this many points on you at home.
Just as embarrassing is the fact that James Madison mustered just 13 points last weekend against FCS Gardner-Webb. In Week 1 against Charlotte, the Dukes scored 30 points, making this sudden point explosion all the more surprising.
The 3rd quarter has begun and the Tar Heels are down 53-24. The Tar Heels have had a fine day on offense as well when you take away the turnovers, with just under 400 total yards at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
