Emory Jones transfer: Report reveals teams showing initial interest in departing Florida QB

Emory Jones made headlines Friday when it was reported that he has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, just days after he said he was committed to Florida.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke Friday’s news in a tweet. Friday evening, ESPN published an article by Thamel detailing Jones’ decision. Quincy Avery, Jones’ private trainer, spoke to ESPN.
“He’s looking for an opportunity to compete and play at a high level and display his talents in an offense that suits his skill set,” Avery said of Jones, per Thamel.
Thamel’s article includes a tidbit about the first teams to show interest in Jones:
Multiple coaches from Arizona State followed Jones on social media in the wake of the news. … Other schools that did the same were North Texas, Akron, Arkansas State and Rice.
Avery told Thamel that Jones has informed UF coaches of the decision and “already begun the process” of entering his name into the portal. Those schools, and others, can contact Jones once his name is in the portal. The report does not address if Jones would have interest in any of the schools mentioned. Arizona State recently lost quarterback Jayden Daniels to LSU via the transfer portal.
Ahead of the Gasparilla Bowl, it was reported that Jones would enter the transfer portal after Florida’s bowl game. He changed his mind after meeting with Billy Napier and the new staff. Jones graduates at the end of the spring semester and is planning to enroll at his new school this summer, per Thamel.
Jones will be immediately eligible with 2 seasons to play.
