Eric Gaines was a key member of LSU’s 2020 recruiting class as a 4-star combo guard out of Georgia.

After averaging 13 minutes per game as a true freshman, he doubled his playing time in 2021-22 and played a much bigger role for the Tigers.

However, after Will Wade was fired, Gaines was among the mass transfer portal exodus in Baton Rouge. Now, on Tuesday afternoon, he took to Twitter to announce he was committing to UAB:

Gaines joins Andy Kennedy’s program — one that earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament as a 12-seed this past season.

Gaines appeared in 34 games at LSU this past season, starting 8 of them. He averaged 9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per contest.
